Stickers for all of 10 mins. And then succumb to screens.
I sat next to a guy who did this once. His daughter stared at her hands for 40 minutes.
Just do the screen on the plane FFS (sorry but for the kid’s sake, your sake, and your fellow travelers)
Snacks. Screen. Stickers. Screen.
And then more screen 😂😂😂😂
Water Wow books by Melissa and Doug
These are very entertaining for toddlers in between screens 😂
Toddler fidget toys (the popper and fastener toys from Amazon). Also, screens. We don’t do screens at home but sometimes it’s all that works.
Pack a bag of small toys like $1 sticker books, markers, matching games, wind up toys, books, coloring, fidgets, puppets, whatever. Even some candy.
All new stuff they have never seen and needs to be unwrapped.
Offer them to take a toy out and then play with it for a bit. Pace yourself but if they want to dump it out and see it all that’s fine too. But this method requires that you be super engaged with it all. Much less restful than just handing them an ipad.
We had to travel a lot at around age 5, and finally just made flights the land of “yes.”
Snack? Sure! Movie? Yep! Game? All you want! It’s a few hours and she therefore loved flying.
Side note: if we wanted her to sleep some we’d also talk that through a ton ahead of time, like, “oooh, it’s a bedtime flight so let’s watch a show and then sleep and when you wake up you can have a snack and watch another show!”
Yes to the land of yes approach. Pretty sure my 5 year old son had 16 Biscoff cookies on a recent LA to NY flight. (I wasn’t far behind if I’m honest - love those things). Traveling should be fun. We say vacation starts and ends on the plane so screen time rules don’t apply.
I also bought these two things for my 16 month old who isn’t really interested in screens. They worked to varying degrees of success but if I’m honest I think the slow reveal throughout the flight helped me pass the time more than it really kept him engaged.

Yes to bag of toys. I brought melissa and Doug water coloring books, books for reading, sanitizer for table, play doh, airplane toys, coloring book with crayons, stickers, every snack on the planet.
Washi tape! My (then) 2 year old was obsessed and it entertained him longer than anything else
He literally stuck it on paper and his arms/me etc and if it got anywhere else - it’s super easy to remove
Thank you for the tips, and the honesty! Helpful for managing my own expectations ☺️
