Favoritism in healthcare jobs is way more common than people admit. Certain people get easier assignments, better schedules, or more support. It creates tension fast. Have you seen this at your job?

Honestly, when I've seen it typically, it is shown to staff who have great attendance and attitudes. So many people thinking just existing and showing up qualifies them to the same opportunities. Not true.
Now on the flip side, I have also seen favoritism shown simply because management has been allowed to hire their BFFs or family members. That always creates a toxic culture and higher turnover

Yep, totally! It’s frustrating to watch it happen!

Absolutely 💯 %!!!
Always interesting the favoritism, manipulation and drama that surrounds these types of people. Sadly, as a nurse I faced it for over 6 years at a previous job. So many nurses left because of this, lack of acknowledging this issue and poor management that allowed other nurses to fall victim! I left work crying so many days because of the harassment and bullying. They vaped in our offics, used printer for rheur personal use with school work, fratenized with other workers in the building against our contracts policies! These companies fail to audit or ask why so many leave. It is truly sad.

PT1: now that you mention it, I’ve never known of my workplace doing any exit interviews either. It is frustrating when everyone’s hours get dwindled down & is out of their control.

True story... adds to the burn out

It absolutely does! Such an unnecessary issue to have to deal with.

So we’re all just struggling out here😅

Definitely! I work in retail pharmacy and who is in charge doesn't always make sense. Especially when you look at full time workers vs part-time workers. Do you deal with the same dynamic in your workplace?

Yes, for sure! Things get really mixed up from time to time and it’s so frustrating to deal with when we all know how straightforward everything can be.

Very common I see this all the time especially when the nurses are all the same race, much less in when the unit has a diversified setting, I like to look around the unit and have even requested that I come at night - when I worked night shift.

My fiancé and I (ages 30 and 31) are about to buy a house. We would put down 10% for a 835k purchase price. Our combined income is $265k. We both have around 7-10k left in emergency funds (each) and combined about 200k for retirement. Our mortgage is $4,500 a month and we split a car payment for $800. Is this an okay financial decision or should we have bought a cheaper house/saved more?

Additional Posts in Jobs in Healthcare

I have a MHA, MBA, and BSHA. I’m wanting to get into a supervisor or manger role but I don’t have the experience. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I dive in and start getting the experience I need? I live in Washington and work in Oregon. Also, anything using my MBA would be favored as well, this degree is not healthcare specific. Thank you!

So I say this with complete humility and an understanding that this is a fortunate-ish situation to be in. I’m in a position where I am tied to nothing, I have no children, spouse, or house. My job, which I’ve loved until some recent significant leadership changes, is sucking the life out of me and I think it may be time for a change. Because I am able to “pick up and go” I’m open to opportunities and locations. I’ve never worked with a recruiter but was hoping I could get some recommendations!

For doing all this they have not even clearly offered me a promotion, raise or a change in position. What should I do?

Hi! I'm currently interviewing (3/6 interviews so far) for for an appeals manager role for DME. The job entails not only to bill for dme (cms 1500) but also to follow up on any denials or appeals, amongst other administrative duties. My questions are is it typical to have 1 person doing both the billing and denials within a new vertical for all ins.? How difficult is billing for dme as I only have experience in gyn onc and lactation billing? What's a fair salary? I have 8+ yoe in rcm, no certs.

Hi all! I recently accepted a remote/hybrid RN position to try something new. Majority of my experience is at bedside. The pay is less than bedside (as a traveler), but more than a staff nurse. Are there any RN’s that left bedside for a remote position that can give advice on the work/life balance? What pros and cons do you encounter?

What can I say to recruiters that will WOW them or replace the fact I have no degree because that’s what most of these company’s require.

I'm an RN of 7 years, experience as a coordinator, on committees and do all the things. But now I just don't want to go to work anymore. Hello there! I currently work in billing at a medical office. I got my Bachelors in Psychology a few years ago but I couldn’t find a position that seemed like a good option for me that was well paying and fulfilling. I tried working as a tech at an Applied Behavior Analysis clinic but it wasn’t a good fit. I’m hesitant to try case management or social work because I worry I won’t like it but I want to use my degree in Psychology. Does anyone have any ideas for me?
