I think the people doing the hiring just require that to protect themselves. If they hire someone who doesn't work out they can shrug it off and say, well, they had a degree. If they hire someone without a degree it just seems more risky. But experience should count for more, especially as most people coming out of college haven't learned much that's useful in most jobs.
I saw an ad the other day looking for 1-2 years experience BUT needed a degree (just a regular retail sales job) wow
I wonder sometimes if this is one of the strategies companies use to never hire, but pretend their hiring. Like ghost jobs or ghosting on candidates after interviews. "Well we put up a job ad, but no one qualified applied! No one wants to work any more" 😂😭
Companies seem to want everything now. You need a degree, you need experience, and by the way, we are going to pay for neither of those! Not everywhere by any means, but enough of it to frustrate me where I’m at. A lot of which are not high level jobs either.
All companies want nowadays are unicorns!
I understand that its a filtering tool but its still annoying.
Companies want every listed but don’t want to pay for it.
This happens to me, I've been purchasing since I was 18, so for 27 years I've been a Buyer. At one company my bosses position came up because she was promoted. I would cover my boss when she was out. I applied and they rejected me because I did not have a degree. This is way out of line, just because you have a degree doesn't mean you’re a hard worker and can do the job. I've worked so hard to get where I am at and I deserve to have a great paying job as well. I'm great with negotiations, I save tons of money, have great relationships with my vendors, etc. It doesn't matter. Also, you are correct, when they say a degree doesn't matter, they still hire someone with a degree.
I was born at the wrong time, because at this point, I would be a manager running my own department with all the experience I have.
