If youāre in NYC, DM me - I can teach Muay Thai and basic jiu jitsu to protect yourself, all for free. Iāve been getting bullied my entire life for ābeing Asianā - and learned martial arts to defend myself.
ZS1 - fo sho - anytime. We got to protect one another during these crazy times
I started carrying, if they start punching, robbing or looting they need to know a bullet is coming for their head!!!!!

hereās my plan as a small Asian woman:
Short-term:
1. Mace/ pepper spray at all times when leaving the house
2. Stun gun/flashlight for when Iām out hiking alone, in a new place, out at night. I just bought the Vipertek VTS-989.
Long-term:
1.Self defense class for basic info and long term training.
2. Assess need for firearm and concealed carry. This will also involve consistent training and practice.

This is the way š§
I have a taser. Never used it but it is loud. Just turn it on and it will scare ppl. Best option is to avoid a fight. So do what you can to scare them, deescalate, or walk away.
Agree. Carrying a knife is a good way for it to be used against you, or for the other guy(s) to bring out his own knife or a gun. Taser or pepper spray is best
Will be getting a pepper spray soon. With all of the violence against us I need something to protect myself and my family.
1. Most situations can be avoided by simply being alert. Your eyes and ears will always be the best preventative weapon. A bright, small flashlight (like a zinger) does almost all the rest of the work.
2. You will not learn self defense fast enough, nor weapons training well enough, in the relatively short timeframe remaining. A gun or knife is more likely to be taken and used on you than stopping the bad guys. You should always be seeking to disengage, not escalate.
3. Mace or a stun gun is all you need if you need it. If confronted you will panic, you will forget everything you hastily learned, and only major muscle groups will be working. It's faster and easier to point and spray or shove a taser into someone than it is to live out some hero fantasy. You are unlikely to ever find yourself in a situation of needing to kill someone who is punching you.

One of my family friends got jumped. I had previously taken self-defense classes. Now, I bring a knife with me if I have to walk outside alone during the early morning/at night. š
Iāve been taking MMA classes with weapons training/defense for a few years as a small Asian woman and work with a lot of bigger guys in my class. If Iām ever in an altercation, I know that I have a better chance since I have trained reflexes vs freezing up since Iām never in any physical situations.
For those who are carrying, I would say to make sure you are consistently practicing how to use your weapons in different scenarios. It can be more dangerous to introduce a knife, etc. into a fight if you arenāt practiced in taking it out and defending yourself.
Yup. Having a weapon and being able to use it properly in high pressure situations are not the same thing. People can freeze, be distracted/disabled for a few seconds while trying to take their weapons out if itās not muscle memory, hurt themselves if using weapon improperly, etc. Assailants can easily take advantage of this to incapacitate you and turn your weapon on you too.
Also itās a very grey area between self defense and being an aggressor yourself. You may know youāre the good guy, but it can be hard to tell from an outside perspective if youāre (or both of you) are brandishing a weapon and attacking. Things can get tricky with the law as well.
Be alert and be careful.

I conceal carry a Glock 19 daily. Iāve stepped up my dry firing and training regimen.
Iāve also purchased a 3ā pocketknife with a folding and locking blade. It was originally for utility, but I am now treating it as a backup melee weapon.
Iāve also gotten in touch with my old martial arts instructor and will be beginning krav maga lessons this week.
I also carry a Gen 4 g19.
It wonāt help against a guy like that unless youāre planning on doing it for 10 years. Your best bet is pepper spray

I'm thinking of learning how to use a knife
SC1 feel free to die in the street, I atleast plan to fight for my life should I need to
I'd try find something that you are genuinely interested and then go from there? Or take some beginner classes across a few and then settle
BJJ is good for subduing one person, but would be difficult in a group setting. My friends love it as it can get very technical.
Muay Thai is more striking orientated if you prefer that, where you get to use all your limbs.

Appreciate it!
Not Asian but eastern European immigrant - I recommend carrying a gun.
Bringing my nunchuck with me at all times. Weāve got to arm ourselves in whatever way possible. But more importantly, stay vigilant and look out for the elderly.
Also for any Asian š in Atlanta ā my martial arts instructor will likely have a free self defense class sometime in the next two months. Feel free to DM me if youāre interested and I can give you the info when itās official
Buy pepper spray - simple solution to a complicated problem. Not everyone will have the penchant to learn martial arts immediately.
Agreed with all the responses here. Whoever has the better weapon is going to win most of the time. So arm yourself with the best weapons if you want to have the best chance.
Time to buy some pepper spray.
I also plan on not going out that often
Where are you finding these criminals that are alone and donāt carry a weapon?

Not going down without a fight and Iāll be carrying soon.
