Very random thought, but if I can get advice from anyone who was similar, that would be wonderful! I have this issue where I just cannot stick to a plan or goal for even a few days. It happens with fitness where I promise myself every Wednesday that I’ll start working out from Monday and then back again; happens with doing my best at work where I give up when anything goes slightly wrong; etc. If someone has any actionable tips to deal with this, deal do share 😭

You might find that you are willing to let yourself down, but not others. If that’s the case, structure your goals in a manner that relate to others. Ex: plan gym visits, book reading, macro counting, /whatever with others.

Also, don’t forget to cut yourself some slack, OP. It ain’t always easy. 👊

Thank you, D2! I think it does stem from the fact that I try to set such “high” goals that it’s discouraging😣

There's a book you should read called "Atomic Habits". Premise is that habits are uuuuuusually an outcome of your environment, so changing your environment will change your habits. Highly recommend reading it.

Start with small goals. Maybe not daily workouts, but two times a week, then move up to three, etc. Small steps count too

You might be setting goals that don’t really interest you but you feel like you should do. So for example, instead of saying you’re going to workout, sign up for a class, like adult volleyball, at your rec center or join a softball league. Do something you enjoy that just happens to also give you some exercise.

like

This is a good approach. Gotta figure out what I enjoy I guess haha!

Small steps…something small and as simple as making your bed as soon as you get out of it. If you already do this…pick something else….maybe making a fresh smoothie everyday. Do not think ahead, just focus on one small goal. It’s re-wiring your brain, once you start you will start to realize you can do it. Pick up complexity of goals with time. But I implore do not look too far ahead. The little effort goals will turn into one massive goal and you’ll look back and be like daaammnnn I did all that. Also motivational YouTube videos are great. Check out David goggins, he will make you run through a wall.

Should have added. For me it was reading a technical book I’ve been putting off for forever. I promised myself 10 pages a day…that’s it. I’m like dude you can do 10 pages a day if it that is pretty bad I would say out loud. Before you know it turns to 15,20,30 pages a day and you’ll almost done with the book. Also this type of discipline for me carried over to other things in life as well. It’s actually give me a sense of calm and was therapeutic and at the same time I was making strides. TO-DOs list are highly motivated for me as well. The key is small steps.

I would try breaking down your goals into daily habits. E.g., For exercise I made it into a habit to exercise everyday in the morning. Now whenever I wake up, my body is primed that the first thing to do is some exercise. Because it is a regular, daily habit this is much easier to keep up than trying to use willpower to work out on three different days a week. I have similar, regular habits/routines for other goals that aim to remove the willpower element from the equation.

Is it because you can't push yourself to stick to the goal or is it because you get preoccupied with something else before you realize it's too late?

It’s the former unfortunately

I relate to this so much... still haven’t figured it out myself

Feeling really nervous, help! I’ve been using topical hydroquinone 4% since before I found out I was pregnant. Now reading the label I realise that it’s not advised and a category C by the FDA - I’m 6 weeks pregnant and have obviously stopped now but really scared I might have caused serious harm to my baby.

Have any of you used this while pregnant and it turned out fine? Any other insights that can give me some peace of mind? 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Had this question pop up a lot recently - discussed here many times before, but want to see if we can quantify the discussion a bit. Let’s assume the vaccine is at 70% shots in arms by 4th of July (‘21), and 80-85% by Labor Day. In 2022, are we back to 3/4/5, or do you think parts of the remote culture will stick going forward?

Just a reminder that outside our bubble no-one really cares about firm prestige etc.

Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
