Having done this before- it happens to everyone! Honestly was surprised how many people in my network reached out to commiserate and offer help. Take them up on it! Be honest and open about the layoff on LinkedIn!
Also: apply for Unemployment ASAP. You’ve paid for it, get your money back.
Wild. Reached out for help and crickets
Sorry to hear! Update your book and resume ASAP and start networking - but first take some time to refresh and reboot
Happens to everyone no matter how good they are at their job - at some point. Try to stay positive and not take it too personally. Keep confidence in your skills and ability to get a new job. Reach out to friends and old co-workers and let them know you are looking. Old bosses who liked you too. Stay open to freelance as a foot in the door. Try not to be too choosy, especially if you sense that the market is very tight. You can always get another job later.
Apply, but know that applying is nearly futile. It’s the network, so flex it. And making your LI like a big nuclear beacon for recruiters to find.
Might experience the rollercoaster of emotions later but remember this isn’t a reflection of you. Just poor planning by those in charge.
Happened to me 5 years in. Was performing well. Was able to find a job within 3 weeks (which was shocking). Take the weekend off and then network (that’s how I got my in - now full time at an agency). Getting laid off was a roller coaster of emotions but in the end it was the best thing that happened to me. Was able to reevaluate my priorities in life. Excited for your next chapter!
Don’t let the man get you down
Never ❌
Volunteer on monday mornings while you’re looking. It gives you the structure of a week, puts your situation in perspective, and makes you feel productive. It really helped me! Also take advantage of the freedom a little. Go visit a museum that is crowded during the weekend or go to the movies in the late afternoon. Network in person if you can
I’ve hd this happen twice since 2020. It’s brutal when you have to keep cashing out your 401 to make ends meet inbetween and unable to save.
