First time mama to be here. I am contemplating if I want to even do account anymore (have been for awhile). I also want to take off more than the standard mat leave, anywhere between 6 months to a year (have enough savings to make this happen). I just don’t want to have any regrets and jump back to work too soon & want to take time to really think about what the next step in my career should be too. Want to keep door open at current agency, as one switch I am considering is recruiting. (Cont’d)

I just took 8 months off and came back last month. It’s fine, many of my friends are gone so it’s a bunch of new people so different there, but it’s still the same dumpster fire messes that were there when I left, so also the same as before. They survived and I had a lot of deserved time with my baby.

I haven’t made the post-mat leave switch but the freelance market is hot right now and if you have any doubts in your mind that you don’t want to return to the same job, and have savings, then it’s worth dipping your toe in the freelance pool to try new things.

I took the max allowed which was 3 months plus one unpaid and if they’d let me I’d take a few more unpaid. I was deeply burnt out and spent my maternity leave looking for a new job. Luckily I found one after about 4 months of going back (and in a different industry) and it’s been the best change ever. Take the risk!

I took 4.5 months with my first and 6months with my second. I’m now freelancing and as someone mentioned above, there’s a lot of freelancing opportunities right now. It’s busy as you’re generally stepping in to pick up a project that is a mess or cover a maternity leave. But honestly, my last account was same hours, if not more and way more weekend work. And You’re a step removed from the ‘mess’ when you’re freelancing.

Just curious if any other moms also made career switches after returning to work. Also wondering about those who took off more than 2-3 months and how that worked out for you. Open to any and all advice at this point. Just unsure how to navigate all of this!

I moved countries and changed careers over nat leave. The move was planned, career change wasn’t - my industry just didn’t exist where I landed.

I did take a pretty big step down but I don’t know if that was circumstantial and part of international leaping / down to my state of mind (lacking confidence after an unexpected 18 months off) or the actual shift but went from head of / director of roles at large brands and boutique agencies to senior at a small agency.

Hello guys,

Please help.

Recently, a month back I made a switch to a product based company/startup. For a month, I was getting to know their one of the product having tech stack as Java & Aws. Now after a month, I am being put in a new product completely based on golang & temporal.

My total exp is 3.8 years, since I have already spent 3.8 of my life in Java stack, would that be good for me if I make a switch to some other language or tech stack? I see, there are very few position for go.

Any motorsports photographers out there?

I would love some advice to get a little more serious with this hobby of mine. I have gone to a handful of events, both local tracks and professional circuits as a spectator, but wish to know what the best approach is to gain media credentials to take this passion of mine to the next next step.

Any advice is welcome, I would very much love to fuel this passion of mine with the hopes of eventually making motorsports photography a career path.
