Manners matter. This discourse about how we all need to be ourselves has jumped the shark. Go ahead and dance like nobody’s watching and I will be very nice and say you are an excellent dancer.
Some ppl are told they are too much. It’s a thing. And, these ppl typically feel the pressure to fit in which is stressful long term.
I thought around the holidays esp, ppl should be reminded that it’s okay to let their real self show. To let their hair down. For me, that’s being around my husband…and kids! It’s safe yet such a fun time, and it’s better than any materialistic gift. ☃️🎄
This post is for ppl who feel they’re too much, so they hold back. It’s obviously not for everyone
If you don’t relate it’s okay but a lot of people are masking at work (ADHD Asperger’s LGBTQ Autism being too quirky or verbose or annoying or loud/quiet) while others (anger management issues, power issues, communication issues) do not have to mask because their natural mode and styles of communicating are what we are used to in the workplace which has historically only recently happened in these confined office spaces where we can scrutinize each other. Only recently is the official corporate culture recognizing that effective leadership comes with the ability for your reports to trust you on some level instead of being afraid of you, hiding errors, etc.
Well said
So, you're ok if students are wearing MAGA caps in class, or employees are wearing any political slogans (anti-Israel, for instance) at work?
You must be real fun at parties.
When I see something like this, it makes me think about how the things we wear and how we present ourselves in public is all about one of two different motivations:
Either you are wearing something because it is comfortable and convenient or you are wearing something to get other people to notice.
The idea that something you wear is about expressing your "true self" is a narrative that doesn't hold up under any careful examination. The reactions of others is the true goal. My true self does not require someone else to notice it and validate my choices.
Please don’t be too much on purpose. Thank you.
My real self goes to work to make money, not to be a true expression of its innermost vibe.
If they can't accept the real you, then that makes them the weak one in that picture. It also shows they can't accept your genuine personality etc they can't accept themselves and they project their uncertainty on you.
