For those who don’t know, I work as a freelancer in Props. I’m currently on a job as a daily, they have contracted me as a higher role than a trainee, but I’m still getting paid a trainee rate. I know it’s too late to ask to change it but I don’t understand why they didn’t just put me down as a trainee? Any thoughts?

Simple oversight, they were in a rush to fill the spot, and/or didn't have the budget to pay for the higher role. Could be any number of things. Also made this mistake once where I had a higher role but lesser pay, you live and learn.

It’s annoying! Is there any way to mention the pay to them or you don’t think it would be worth it?

Ugh, that’s frustrating. You’re doing the work, you deserve the rate. Sometimes they slot people where they need them and don’t adjust the pay to match, hoping you won’t push back. Even if it’s too late this time, keep the receipts. The good news is that once you have the title, you can apply elsewhere and showcase your experience and they have to pay more.

Yes, at least they know that I’m capable of a higher role!

I once asked a colleague at a radio company how much he's paid monthly, and he outright refused to tell me. In fact, he found it very odd that I asked. I later learned that he was making double my salary. I know it's not an employee's job to fix pay inequity by sharing their salary figures, but I'm still of the opinion that it helps uncover pay gaps. But do you think it's wise to do so at the risk of damaging your work environment or the whole thing backfiring on you? Thoughts are welcome.
