1 week sober! Over the last 12 years (I’m early 30s) I’ve reached this point just a handful of times. Alcohol is deeply intertwined into my social life much like everyone’s is I imagine. I’ve asked for work but no luck. I know they say this is normal for a stub but when should I start getting worried and consider looking for exit options? Fyi, I like my practice group, so I don’t want to change to a different group within my firm, hence would have to lateral, if I have to. Also, other co-1st years are churning in high hours.

15 YOE Sales AE considering a boot camp to make the career pivot to software engineering. Made $200k last year - likely looking at a 50+% pay cut at the start of my engineering career, plus the cost of the boot camp. Am I crazy? How long would it take me to get back to $200k+/yr in engineering?

Just started in Biglaw as a first year - one of the partners made a passing remark that he couldn’t remember my PQE but thinks I’m “the same as X associate”. Went on LinkedIn and saw that X associate is a third year. How do I gently correct this misconception in a future conversation?

Why do many associates at top tier firms stay to make Partner when they can go in-house in tech and make around the same, even long term? For example, you can make near 400-550k in-house at Google, Netflix, FB with 8-10 years of exp. More senior than that in-house, it can easily break $1M.

Did your firm’s leadership send a message re the horrific shooting? Before I lateraled we always got emails from leadership, which IMO were very humanizing and appreciated. Completely and totally miserable at my firm and just need a space to vent because my friends are tired of hearing about it. I wish the worst part about it was the amount of work, rather than the completely toxic culture, lack of appreciation, arbitrary and back/breaking deadlines, lack of mentorship/feedback/training, and the fact that the associates act like they don’t even know each other. I cry every day and constantly am made to feel stupid for not understanding the highly technical (cont.)
