Random/odd question if anyone knows the answer: if you are a corporation in state A (California), can you operate as a sole proprietorship in State B (Massachusetts), and have your website list the name of your company and both states in which you operate? Asking for civil procedure purposes in Massachusetts and wondering if the State A Corp is an unregistered foreign Corp in State B that I can tattle on. Polling the audience!

Anyone had good luck finding a therapist or counselor that specializes in patients that are lawyers or work in other high stress jobs? I’m not naive or fresh out of law school, but I’m at a point where I’m saying to myself “Why can’t I have it all?” I’ve been offered a job for more pay and less hours and I keep thinking to myself, what’s the catch? I know people will say no promotion potential or that’s not how it works…but what if it could? What if you make yourself valuable by still setting your boundaries? Why would we resent someone who has that opportunity?

What’s the best way to turn down a 2nd interview? During the 1st interview, I learned that the compensation for the role is not within the range that I am looking for and requires 400 more billable hours a year than what I bill now. I’d basically be laterally for my current salary just to bill 400 more hours. I also wasn’t aware that the local office was strictly ID. Firm website advertises lots of practice areas. Any advice? If there were no practical obstacles whatsoever, what area(s) of law OTHER than your current practice area would you want to explore, and why?

I’ve been so specialized for so long I’m not even sure how to answer this question for myself. Once upon a time I was somewhat interested in tax but I’m worried that’s where fun goes to die. I kinda dig admin law, although that’s cheating a bit because I work with a federal agency.

I recently had a specialist partner send me a fairly nasty email after I (a transactional first year) was told to ask them to review something ASAP that had clearly been on my partner’s radar for over a week. Why am I taking the (honestly justified) blame for this? Surely it should be obvious that I’m just the messenger here.

What productivity hacks do you employ? I like to shut off my email for 25 min intervals to focus on real work. It’s like a sprint of focus without being “unavailable” too long.
