General strategy question/advice: I recently applied to a big law posting that wasn’t for a direct hiring need but instead a general lateral associate posting where they’ll consider applications as they come through. I worry with these that the application will just fall by the wayside and never be seen. Would it be out of line to find a partner in my practice area and just email them directly to introduce myself and ask about their hiring needs?

Email a partner. If they like what they see they will flag it for recruiting.

I thought most firm postings were for a specific position…this was on the firms website?

Yes, just a general “catch all” application. Something about considering the applications on an as needed basis.

Firms like Gibson have a lateral generic job post up at all times. Not many firms do this but a handful do.

I agree it could get lost. Instead of a partner, I would email the recruiting contact. You can find names on the website.

Hi guys,

I am into java full stack development with 4 yoe.
I have two options
Accenture with 11.8 fixed + 20% variable. (Has joining bonus)
Amadeus with 16 fixed.

I am more concerned about the technology (angular, java, cloud), learning and job security.

I am confused between them. Please suggest. TIA.

Looking to relocate to Boston (fiance grew up there and wants to settle down around family). Sadly I dont have much of a network up there. Does anyone know of current searches?

Currently at BNY Mellon with 10 YOE, specifically in Corporate Trust working CLO/CDO’s (first job out of college). I’ve moved around within the bank a few times but I’m just not happy here nor am I where I want to be in terms of comp . I want to pivot into something else but I have no clue what skills I could transfer elsewhere as what we do is so niche. They sucked me in when they said it would be a FA role but we don’t do any modeling, forecasting, etc.. Any advice/suggest/rec’s much apprecia

So the question has been asked a few times in the main Big Law bowl but keeps getting derailed into a political issue. As someone with a more conservative disposition anyway I'm interested in the day to day of life and work in Texas as opposed to NYC (or similar).

So, what are the pros and cons of living in Texas and working in Texas Biglaw?

I wasn’t sure which bowl to solicit advice from so hoping to catch a bite here. I’m currently in ID. Of course, I want OUT! My interests are L&E and corporate. My options are 1) wait it out where I am in hopes to switch to L&E or 2) in house oil and gas industry transactional work. What would you do and why? I figured this bowl being specific to Texas would understand importance of oil and gas industry.
