Hey there!
I am a Masters Student majoring in Machine Learning. I am in my first semester and I am kind leaning to explore Data Science as well. Could any Professional Data Scientists help me out on getting started? What skills do I focus on? What kind of projects should I have on my portfolio?
I have tried looking this info out in the internet but its all overwhelming. Hoping to get some honest guidance here!

You’ll start in the same post mba level you’d have gotten now in 5-6 years if that plays outs.
Better off finding an internal strategy role somewhere
Got it, thank you!
Tbh I think that’s a very difficult path. MBB doesn’t hire a lot of lateral joiners for senior positions. And when it does, success rates are not amazing because it’s a culture change and the skills needed at manager & partner level take more time to build.
By the time you’re applying for MBB you’ll have an MBA + 3-4 year working experience, so you’d aim for EM / PL / M roles, which are not easy. If you have a chance to get to B4 or T2 directly from MBA, that would certainly make it easier.
I agree in theory, but Noone is hiring you in strategy without consulting experience...

Infosys consulting has nothing to do with MBB or even b4. If no other job - give it a try. But don’t expect real fulfilling consulting engagements. Your job will be to presale labor intensive lower end work to enterprises. The current business incl genAI is not favorable for WITCH firms (I stands for Infosys).
Don't get me wrong.. I would love mbb, or any of the b4.. unfortunately, they're not interested in me or my background. So I gotta play out whatever cards I have. I'm still thinking of LDP, strategy to consulting route.
Or I may just skip consulting altogether.
Its so interesting to see Infosys, Big 4 and MBB all on the same persons bingo card, I wonder where OP goes to school

Are you a first year or second year? MBB usually recruits in second year for full time as well.
I don’t know much about Infosys but I agree with the others that, depending on your skill-set, you are better off aiming instead for B4 or “T2” (OW, K, S&, EYP, etc.)
There’s also the chance you could enter MBB as a specialist (think this is for M and BCG more so than Bain).
Two questions:
- Why are you fixated on Infosys?
- Are you getting your MBA in the US or Europe, or somewhere else?
I'm fixed on getting any consulting firm. The program is my regional t25 doesn't have that strong of a lunch besides the region which is heavy on O&G.
My background is healthcare.
Rising Star
Many years ago a bunch of my friends followed a really good leader to Infosys Consulting. The leader left after 2 years but he had to relocate to Dubai to get another job. Of my friends, 1 moved on to a restructuring firm after the leader left and is now circling the drain with boutiques, the rest are still there and are truly stuck in terms of exits. It’s been 4 years and one of my friends has interviewed everywhere but he can’t get a job. I’d love to hire my friends as I’m now in industry, but the optics of Infosys aren’t great. I got made redundant years ago and considered joining them because I was desperate. I’m really glad another opportunity came along as I’d be just as stuck as they are.
Why are you striking out?
Economy, regional pulls mostly from O&G, thats not my background unfortunately.
also my mba program.

So where are you getting an MBA from?
Also MBBEY confirmed!

I’m also interested in why the OP has a hyper-fixation on Infosys, which isn’t even the biggest or best out of the WITCH firms.
My background, economy, and mba program.
Infosys comes to our school. Would love who you think i should aim for.
I have a healthcare background! Obviously #1 priority is always getting A job so put your hat in many rings. If MBB is goal I would say you’re better off trying to work in industry first. Are you payer-provider? Life sciences? Industry experience is valued more in healthcare generally, so you could get lucky
In any case you’d have to get lucky since MBB is hard to break into
