Yes. I would ask for a few weeks between jobs. Accept the offer w/ the plan to start in 6 weeks or 2 months. Not uncommon. This is especially true if your new employer is a bit tight on vacation time in your first few years.

Man, I’d ask for a lot more than this. I’d ask for a couple of months and say you’d like the time to catch up on house projects and visit family and refresh a bit. Worst case scenario, they tell you they need you sooner.

Then super typical and you should ask for what you want.

Did they give any impression that they needed you in quickly? If not, 2 weeks is fine. Possibly even more if you want.
I asked my in-house gig for a start date of one month from when my offer was finalized (it was a long process where I knew I was receiving the offer and had verbally accepted 3 weeks before the official offer). Two weeks of work, one week for my preapproved vacation, and one week to finish up the last of my work at my firm. No one had any problem with it.
I took 7 weeks off between gigs. I wanted to give 4 weeks notice but I had a trip planned a few days after I would’ve started so we just set the start date after I got back, which would’ve been 3 weeks. Former employer sent me packing when I gave notice so ended up with 7. It was glorious! Haha

Ask to delay start by 5 weeks. Lie and say there’s a client matter you’re working on, it’s wrapping up then, you’re driving it and it would be very difficult to sub someone in.
I'd recommend asking for it. Your boss will understand that between gigs is really the only time we can truly disconnect. I jumped to my current gig with little time off between gigs and really regretted it. Other times, I normally got 1-2 weeks off..
It's however long you think you can get. I think pple appreciate the honesty that you need a break to reset but if there's urgency they may not be happy if you ask for a delay of months.
If you're going to an exec legal role, then dear god yes take off more than two weeks. You know your life will (lovingly) be hell after you start, so take at least a month off before starting.
I’m in a similar scenario since I’m getting married and then honeymoon. Should I ask to start after the honeymoon?
