Good Day!
I am an IP paralegal (patents and trademarks) with 30 years of experience. I have law firm and in-house experience in NYC, Boston and Houston.
I was laid off from my in-house position due to company wide lay offs - not anything to do with performance.
I have been looking for a position in the Houston area for the last month.....

I have been on all the websites (LinkedIn, Indeed, ZipRecruiter and Glassdoor), reached out to all my attorney friends, contacted recruiters and I have been contacted by recruiters.
I only have prosecution experience, not lit.
I am not finding anything.
Any advice or recommendations on places to look, recruiters?
Thank you!!

I’m beyond irritated by one of my coworkers. Just so disorganized, doesn’t show up to meetings, doesn’t reply to emails, constantly have to chase him, miss deadlines because of him. Management knows but does nothing about it. He really is a nice guy so it’s hard to hate him but I’m gonna lose it sooner or later. I’ve tried talking to him, I’ve tried escalating, putting reminders on his calendar. Nothing works. What are my options? Suck it up or leave? This is unnecessary stress for me

I’ve practiced litigation in DC for about 5+ years at a larger plaintiffs’ firm, and am considering a switch to a defense firm. Is there any insight to how many billable hours this would require, and how much time that would actually be? For reference, the firm has a 1900 billable hour requirement and the partner said I would have “no problem” fulfilling that based on the work they have.

Any ideas for automating IP legal work?

Is it a viable business opportunity for a mid level patent litigation associate to leave BigLaw and consult? Service could include pre-litigation diligence (e.g., pre-litigation infringement analysis) for funding companies and law firms, overflow work, consulting for patent prosecution firms that take on ipr or litigation work, litigation consulting for tech companies that don’t have in-house counsel. Cross posting this in the BigLaw bowl.

Hello All. I am a recent licensed attorney in NY and AZ. A former judge from Albania. I hold a JD from ASU. Unfortunately, being only focused on trademark associate positions, I have not landed my first year associate job. Actually working in house as a trademark paralegal. Thanks

Although I know you don’t need to pass the patent bar to “technically” do patent litigation, would it be a dead end move to pursue patent litigation without a technical degree / admission to the patent bar? In other words, would most BL firms refuse to staff associates on patent litigation cases if they don’t have a technical degree?

Currently a trademark prosecution attorney that does some trademark / copyright litigation.
