Hey everyone. Recently interviewed at a registered investment advisor, 10 person shop. What’s everyone’s views on hand written thank you notes vs emails post first round interview? Both people I met with gave me their business cards without me asking which I think is a good sign. Usually like doing emails vs hand written notes because you can get a response or further conversation vs possibly not hearing anything from a hand written note.

I keep getting feedback from managers and interviewers that I am strong in product strategy and business mindset, but weak in technical skills despite my CS undergrad and 2 YOE as a software engineer. Granted I have not coded in many years but I am knowledgable enough to understand and discuss technical questions with my dev team. what should be the expected level of technical knowledge?

Would you lateral for more money ($100k+ more) if you are otherwise content with your current firm and really like the work you’re doing and your supervising partners/mentors?

As a student in the final year with professional experience in accounting, i think about dropping into software sales. I got an offer for 68k€ annually (Big4 ususally 55k€ offers). Especially as a young person, i wonder if learning opportunities are good in software sales. What do you think?

However, I only have a masters in law, not a JD, so I have no summer associate experience, and every position wants experience first. I am not sure just how many people are in this bowl but I feel like I just need to say this...I AM SO GRATEFUL AND HAPPY WITH MY DECISION TO PRACTICE IP! I am a newer attorney and I practice solely trademark law. I love it, my boss, my schedule and I am happy! I am seeing so many attorneys posting about burnout, stress, and hating their jobs in the other bowls and I just needed to shout it out to the universe that I think we made the right decision with IP.

I recently started with Firm A (AM Top 200), and Firm B (AM Top 50) reached out for an interview. Given the potential pay with Firm B is significant (I’d say life-changing), I scheduled the interview. Should I disclose Firm A during the interview or wait and only disclose if Firm B makes an offer? Between now and the interview, I will not have completed any significant work for Firm A.
