My favorite was while at EY I interviewed a guy who just knocked it out of the park and he clicked with our team. I had two projects where I could have placed him immediately and made sure all interviewers entered feedback that day. Everyone agreed he was a resounding yes.
I sent him an email well over a month later and asked him when he would be accepting his offer. He quickly replied by asking when EY would be extending one.
So I looked like an ass. EY HR and hiring are not only slow but they are terrible at communicating. It typically took 6-9 months to bring people onboard and that often resulted in not getting the candidates we really wanted but rather had to settle for, which contributes to EY PI's talent gap.
We got that person Onboard but I had to hound recruiting and ultimately provide a chargeable code. Their sibling worked at EY otherwise they clearly stated they would have went elsewhere.
EY PI has a talent gap particularly versus PWC, Deloitte and against EY TAS. Even within EY, processes and abilities are wildly inconsistent.
There are some outstanding people but often not the same level of depth. People who have target skills and are good consultants have options and if one firm can process you in 30-60 days and provide consistent communication while the other takes 6 months and there are communication gaps, then who would you choose to work for?
With EY usually somewhere between 5 days - 5 years
Haha yeah good luck with EY HR, they don't know what they are doing
It depends - their HR is inconsistent
When I joined 2 years ago interviews 6 times from dec to march
Offer made in April
So the questions is: when will the EY partners will step up and replace the incompetent HR
Recruiting interviewing, sr manager sniff test interview, super day interviews (4 total 2 mgr and 2 sr mgrs) and final Executive Director interview. So actually 7 rounds damn!!!!
Its not that its arduous. McKinsey is arduous by design, its that it is poorly managed and slow.
TAS moves faster and are more deliberate. They tend to be higher performing, higher margin and subsequently pay higher than PI for example.
They may be slow, but they are smoking hot. Even more so in Eng. Mgmt.
TAS makes about 20% more than PI if you compare M1 to M1. A senior in TAS OTS comes in at 140-145 from an MBA which is significantly more than many PI managers make.
I knew people with no M&A exp that could have gone into either PI or OTS and OTS and chose OTS as it offers higher pay.
PI strategy from what I understand is aligned with commercial now but the true strategy arm at EY that gets strategy work at strategy rates is Parthenon which is part of TAS.
I am no longer at EY but all-in-all had a good experience there and though I had my frustrations like I am sure I would have anywhere, I was fortunate to work with some great people who would have been high performers at any Big5 firm.
I spent a lot of my time in TAS as I was aligned to industry which given the rate of M&A, wasn't typical but wasn't uncommon in my practice. There were a handful of us that went from transaction to transaction over about 2.5 years. I also had previous M&A experience.
Given the nature of M&A you tend to work closely with corporate strategy during due diligence and theough the transaction. Many of the clients are ex McKinsey and BCG or PE. McKinsey and BCG often ran point on deals so there was interaction and reporting up through to them as well.
The work to do due diligence and identify the path to achieving and executing value on a deal is strategic by its nature and then after the deal the same OTS team often will do a lot of the work that PI would normally do. The OTS team already is familiar with the client environment and partners aren't typically going to give away work and relationships they built.
Transaction Advisory Services - The name of EY's M&A practice
Yes, they basically have a consultancy within a consultancy. Their IT leader is really impressive with their industry experience and a former Deloitte partner.
^can vouch for it having seen it from both commercial and federal practices (and even within it varies)
Did you have face to face? My HR contact is very prompt. But this is happening only recently. Other prior interactions were screwed up
Btw which practice or service line did you interview
Haha oh boy it sounds like it's going to be quite a ride. K2 yes they were in person interviews
E2 how many rounds was that?
