From a retail point, we have gone from
"Hi, thanks for coming in, your total is $xx.xx, here you go, have a great day"
to
"Welcome to *store name*, what can I help you find, are you a member of our loyalty programme, please input your number to get our text coupons, would you like the service plan, can I get your email, what is your ZIP code, check out our facebook page, cash or card, insert the chip, leave it in, no you need to put it back, leave it in, LEAVE IT IN, for the love of god, leave it in, hit the green button, do you want a bag, paper or plastic, check out our website, you can get 4 magazines for $1, our featured candy is ***, check us out on Instagram, our next big sale is, thank you"
with half the staff and three times the work. And we wonder why customers tune us out ;)
Exactly! The script overload is so real. Customers get impatient, and we’re stuck juggling a whole speech while they just want to pay and leave.
Some people are just like that, but I’ve also been on the other end and passed around to multiple people, so I get the impatience. Plus, it doesn’t help that we are rarely given the leeway to go off that little script.
Totally get this, it’s tough when you want to actually help but can’t step off the script.
You just described the majority of my callers 🤣. I don't even blame them, I've done it as a customer myself. Doesn't bother me one bit, I'll happily avoid reciting my stupid little spiel if they don't have the patience for it.
Haha fair enough 🤣 sometimes you can just feel when the customer isn’t in the mood for the whole script. Gotta pick your battles.

I know, right? Feels like summer barely started. Things definitely shift with school and staffing—are you noticing it too?
Yeah, totally! I’ve noticed calls getting a bit more rushed and impatient lately
