These are terms used regularly in ERP projects, mostly during the sale and initial phases of implementation. Greenfield refers to building a new system from scratch, and brownfield refers to upgrading an existing system into a newer version.
Green = new. Brown = old
yes. Greenfield/ brownfield are pretty commonly used terms in digital transformation
Pretty common in dev delivery projects
D1 is correct. To expand, greenfield is the initial first-time implementation of the environment. Brownfiled is the update of an existing environment. Their follow-up questions would have been around the approach and requirements of each. Greenfield is usually a waterfall project while Brownfield is agile/scrum.
They're fairly standard terms, but that's not a very good interview question.
This term is waaaay more common in construction project management.
I never heard of “brownfield”, but I’ve certainly heard of green. I agree with the previous comment. Green is indication of a new deployment or project.. perhaps brownfield is a terminology they’re using it that specific employer.
Never heard those terms either (in 5 years ERP implementations). If you didn't, that would have been a good time to ask for clarification.
I first heard of these terms many years ago around lean manufacturing
10 years and never heard of it ? expand your knowledge. At 10 years you might be handling RFP, during business development work and most contracts have these terms or come up in conversations.
