I was not surprised at all about the news with Minnesota. Sadly, I have worked at many companies where there is tons of fraud going on. You wouldn't believe the things people get away with.

Sad. I keep thinking back to Wells Fargo and how even today I would hesitate opening an account with them.

Having good controls is a must. Although that does not prevent companies that are my created for fraud.

Yep. Ultimately the people who like to commit fraud end up finding a way to do it most of the time, despite all of the controls in place.
Kind of. I worked for BoA a long time ago, was a teller, and my sales number was low. They put me in the drive thru, told me to enroll customers in paperless statements, without their consent. Um, no. My most recent banking job I loved, was a local bank, we opened the accounts ourselves, so I worked with the products. Anyways we had these tip jars out for The Children's Miracle Network, they were getting a service dog for one of our customers, a teenage boy. He'd come in a lot. I remember he came in with a check; told me it was his birthday. I ran it through the system; it went through fine, I gave him his money and he left. Within a few weeks, I was brought into the office with my branch manager, assistant manager, and supervisor. They were so sly about it, I hated that company after that which was a shame because I LOVED that job. That kid received a check from a relative, who was on our Board of Directors, and he altered it. The system never picked up on it, and I admit I didn't check it as closely as I should have. He was a frequent customer, and he was distracting me, he talked the entire time. I was stunned when they accused ME of altering the check. Like, what??? Why would I do that and how would that positively affect me in any way?? The relative on the board wanted me gone and I was furious. I remember it turning into me yelling because 1. They refused to ban him. 2. We are doing a fundraiser for this kid, and he is a thief???? And related to the board of directors? It seemed like a huge conflict of interest. I was so pissed. Especially when they blamed me. They continued letting him come in, and I would walk off, I never helped him again. There was another time, they used to have me call customers when their payments didn't go through, and they got the overdraft fee. I can't remember what it was called. I've always been a by the book type person. The rule was they were allowed 1 free one a year, I believe..it's been a while, and they had until the end of day to make the deposit. I remember calling one man, he refused to pay, already had multiple overdrafts so I informed him that he would be getting a charge if he didn't. He cussed me out, I got off the phone with him and didn't think anything of it. A few hours later I get brought into the office, same 3 managers. They ask me about this guy and if I charged him the fee. I said yes of course. They asked me why. I said he refused to pay and at the time he had over 5 overdraft fees already. The assistant manager became real snide and told me we NEVER charge HIM. Don't I know who he is? I said no, and why does it matter who he is? He was some prominent businessman or something (POS really) and they always waived fees for him. I was furious. I was like oh, I'm sorry I wasn't aware the rules apply to only certain customers. If you waive his, you should waive all. They didn't let me do that job anymore 😂 They showed their true colors.
