Sanity check needed. We own a home we paid $280k for, 6 years ago. We've begun to outgrow it and are debating building on vs buying.

Building would probably be $350k, would take about 4 months, and would require us to move out temporarily (likely 50-75% of that time), but then we'd have *exactly* what we want. Buying would cost ~$650k (plus $59k in closing costs to sell and buy).

House is worth $400k if we do nothing; addition would likely double value.

When picking up a J2, how much should you include about J1 on a background check?

I really want to get a second job but I am scared of losing my current one. Both companies are in same field, although not direct competitors so I know it’s technically “not allowed” however, this is the only way for me to get that $$ since I am not paid all that well.

How difficult is it to juggle a remote role with a hybrid role?

My current role is hybrid with at least two days a week in office. However, with the potential economic downturn, I'm considering holding on to the role to supplement my income.

I’ve been on the bench with J1 for about 3 months. I was worried that because I couldn’t find another project, I would get laid off so I found J2, which pays more, is very meeting heavy, but I really like. The first rule of overemployment is dont talk about overemployment to anyone outside your house. :). Second: always protect the main job. Third: As the main job always has the priority, the Second and third jobs must preferably be contract gigs with not too many meetings everyday. Remember: another day, another dollar.

Has anyone taken STD/parental leave at both Js?

Anyone in consulting and doing OE? Using bench time for J2+ seems like a good opportunity in this environment, considering it wouldn’t look out of place to remain on the bench for quite a while
