Has anybody from big 4 worked in both Canada and Asia (like Singapore)? Do you think Canadian Big 4 environment is more relaxing (e.g., fewer projects at the same time, fewer working hours, etc.)?

Have worked across APAC, Europe and NA (both CAN and US). Can say without doubt that Canada has lowest productive output and willingness to stay competitive. Per capita GDP decline cant speak louder than

Which is a nightmare for middle management, excessive pressure from the top but teams arent willing to put in the work.

I think I’m best qualify to answer as I worked in Singapore for 4+ years and in Canada counting 1+

Canadian Big4 env is all about you being proactive to be in the competition. If you are not, there might be someone ahead of you to snatch that. Be it to be working in a project or being part of sales cycle.

Regards to colleagues - everyone is as nice as a sharp sword.

In Singapore, you will have more in-person engagement with colleagues, people and everyone, which can help to get many things done and also you will get a chance to connect with them outside work to really know about the person and the working patterns.

There work will be little hectic given the pace is little faster compared to Canada, it’s because of the market size and also the economics of the engagement . In Singapore the deal size in terms of dollars is half of the amount compared to Canada but the work remains the same.

Thanks, how many engagements do you usually work on at once?

Worked at a T2 strat shop in a developed economy in Asia for a decade. My experience is that there's a lot of grinding 80+ hour weeks are normal, 80 might even be on a low end but not all those hours are productive (showing face, doing work for sake of work that doesn't necessarily mean too much incremental value, etc. However, I think it's mostly driven by clients. Asian clients who can afford consulting want to be global winners against leading companies in the US and they are willing to put in the effort and hours for it which makes the co sultant's job more demanding.

Worked in US and Asia. Canada is very laid back and has more WLB.

Also feels like everyone is working a level beneath their peers (eg Asia SC = Canada M).

Agree on the leveling and hear similar about UK.

I was doing Canada “manager” level work as a consultant in Asia. And vice versa, as a manager in Canada, the expectations are level with those of a consultant in Asia. Was doing “senior manager” level work as a manager in Asia. Unfortunately it def feels like I’ve stepped down moving to Canada.

East Asia is just like the USA in terms of productivity, if not even more hectic.
