No, you join the Associate class from one year after you.
2020 BA becomes 2021 ASC for comp purposes.
You’re shifted to the associate/EM pay scale at the end of the year in which you’re designated (so base pay doesn’t change immediately, but your total comp for the year will increase) - depending on timing, you may not make as much as an associate-to-EM who joined the same year as you, but you’re definitely making much more than if you stayed a BA.
You should reach same total comp at roughly the time of designation (though should note ratings are correlated with but not linked to designation)
The trap for BAs is that your tc is much more bonus driven than someone from the ME track - so you’ll have less cash flow until you catch up at EOY
