I worked at Designity as my first job out of college, and it was a good early learning experience. this was a few years ago, so things may be different now.
Creative roles below CD generally worked as “permalancers” on up to 5 accounts at a time. The CDs did all the project management, client interfacing and general account / PM stuff agencies staff multiple people for. Some managed it better than others, but it certainly required a significant amount of multitasking.
They try to hide the creatives behind the CD’s, and promise things like “no client meetings” for anyone who isn’t a lead. Started to feel weird once I had been working with the same clients for over 6 months but never actually interacted with them.
Culture was decent, they hosted creative shares and internal voting (with small rewards) every month. Had a startup-y vibe with elaborate goals/ideals and “virtual experiences” that felt a little over zealous / under delivered, but the leadership are well meaning.
I found there were big technical gaps in terms of skill levels, partially because they were hiring a lot of people out of / still in school (like me at the time). I benefitted from it for my own learning, but CD’s did had to double check everything for inexperienced errors
Thank you for providing a designer's POV about Designity. It might be something I pursue if nothing else pans out, but from what I can tell, it sounds like the type of business model that some would like and others would not. It might be something I could do short term, but it would definitely not be a long-term career solution for me.
I have, in May 2021.
They made me submit a weird video "intro/elevator pitch" about myself as a first step.
Next they wanted me to complete what they called "The Creative Director Challenge" which was doing a creative brief, production schedule and mood board for a project they would propose.
Basically free work.
I said no thanks and never looked back.
One red flag that I noticed was that the replies to almost all of the negative reviews by current employees were extremely defensive with no accountability, and they all ended with "We wish you all the best with your next position that better suits you."
They boast about their open communication and how they welcome feedback, but it seems to be a lot of talk without any substance.
