Has anyone had the experience of trying to remind people of DEI and not let it get lost in the mix overnight, and then be labeled a snowflake, bitter, or a white savior, depending on who you are? Essentially, that you're some kind of political statement and not someone making a fair point?

Yes, I think supremacists, fascists, and bigots have done a great job equating being a decent person as a political standpoint. There was a brief time in history when it didn't matter the party or political standing, we saw that human rights and equality were important. Now, inclusion is now labeled as "woke" as if that is a bad thing.

This Part ^^. I don't know when being not a butt-monkey became being a snowflake. It is really is just a bunch of buzzwords to make people angry who have no idea why they are angry.

All the time - my best strategy is to bring it up in ways that don't "outright" scream DEI, but rather just as another perspective.

Proving the financial gain or positive impact of DEI is a good start per the respective projects. That’s always served me well when the cards were stacked. Measurable impacts and KPIs. The saying now is “go woke, go broke” so it’s now more important than ever to show those metrics. Additionally if you are able, attend a conference this Fall like Adcolor which arms DEI professionals with conversation and toolkits, workshops, etc. to have these convos and produce impactful results.

An Assistant Professor at Berkeley said it best, imo. She said that it's important to recognize when anyone (black or white) is being disingenuous because doing so hinders progress. Whenever folks overemphasize issues that aren't real or pertinent issues, that's a red flag.

I'm confused what this quote means, can you elaborate?

I know this sounds weird, but I think my fiancé has my tech tapped… I journal and write short stories that I’ve used as an outlet for years. Way before I met him. Lately, it feels like he repeats things that I’ve written or said over the phone. For example, I’ll tell a friend that I want to visit her in San Diego. Then, he’ll come home and say I should visit my friend in San Diego soon. Am I paranoid or is he really listening? I feel violated and exposed. He doesn’t have a tech background.

In honor of National Voter Registration Day, The New Yorker released the transcript of a previously unpublished interview with James Baldwin, who gave a first-hand account of "Freedom Day 1963," a Black voter-registration drive in Selma, Alabama. Baldwin's descriptions from that day are so vivid and detailed that you can feel the fear and anger of the event. If you have a couple of minutes, I highly recommend you read it.

Feeling very frustrated right now…company talks a big game about DEI internally, while requiring new hires to move to Texas/Arizona, while the company’s PAC donates to politicians pushing extremist, regressive, anti-woman and anti-LGBT laws

They want to encourage us to “bring our whole self to work” while putting us in situations where we can’t be our whole self.

Anyone else in a similar place, feeling discouraged? Any tips?

Definitely took the wrong job. I was offered a seriously competitive salary and great benefits to work at a well funded startup, which is great! Turns out the salary and benefits were meant as lowkey bribes to insure I worked at the company without actually doing any work.
