Just change the dates on your resume to cover the gaps, they don't have to know your business and I doubt they even take time to contact your previous employers even if they are serious about hiring you, sometimes you gotta fake it in order to make it!

Especially finance, banks & tech. Even freelance roles do a background check. I agree. Unless you’re saying you’re doing projects for friends as 1099. They hired you part tome as a consultant. Etc

If I were you I'd put consultant or freelancer as your current job. Even if you pick up just one small freelance gig it's legit resume experience. If you can't find paid work, do volunteer work or teaching or contribute to open source projects. The great thing about a freelance job is it's open-ended and can be whatever you want it to be and employers can't really verify one way or another.
This is what I did. The recruiter told me that if I’d done any freelance work - in the almost 12 months that I’d been out of full time work - that I should update it on my resume and LinkedIn. He said it would help when he went to get executive approval on the offer, and sure enough I finally got that offer. I also tried to work on how I was expressing the narrative i.e. took time with my family, looked into freelance work and found some, and when that came to a close I focused on companies where I had a connection or where somewhere in my network did.

Put consulting and then try to find some small gigs or even volunteer to give yourself something to talk about and fill the perceived gap.

I was out for 15 months. I created an LLC and used it as my "current" employer. Made explaining the gap much easier, and got fewer questions about it.
