Has anyone here represented a friend or family member in like a small claims court type of case?

Yes. But, it is not something I like to do frequently. I recently helped an elderly family member correct an issue with their mortgage company. Their spouse passed and the mortgage company accidentally discharged the mortgage. Months later, they realized their mistake, initiated litigation to reinstate the mortgage, and demanded a lump sum payment to bring the mortgage current. I basically negotiated that the few months of back pay should be tacked on to the end of the loan. In exchange, we voluntarily reinstated the mortgage. A win-win for everyone in the end.

I'm pretty sure your professional liability insurance might take issue with this sort of representation that's not run through the firm first.

Heyy does anyone have any tips for an entry level media planner? I graduated last year and landed a FT offer at an agency. I’ve been working from home for almost a month now and honestly it has its pros and cons. Not only is it harder getting to know your team, but there haven’t been much guidance from my manager and the lingo takes some time to get use to. I guess I just want to learn as much as possible and give off good impressions. Since everything is wfh I’ve been feeling anxious. Thanks!

Hi fishes, I'm a strategy consultant based in London who's worked over the past few years with BioTech and Pharma across clinical strategy, commercial strategy, competitive intelligence, and market access.

I'm currently looking for new opportunities, including possibly joining an early-stage BioTech/MedTech, and am therefore reaching out to expand my network.

Is anyone open to having a chat / or even just discussing industry trends?

How can I sell my 2 years of clerkship as valuable experience for corporate work? I would like to get credit for at least one year (at least in salary, if I can’t in seniority). I know for litigation they are more clearly valued and linked to that type of work, but I have reconsidered my interests and now am thinking of going into corp. However, I don’t want to feel like I wasted 2 years clerking (which I don’t feel like that, but I have to convince an employer of that too). Any help or insight?

Any corp associates looking to move from biglaw to a boutique? My firm remains busy and is looking to bring on a couple associates. We’re all either hybrid or fully remote, and that’s here to stay. 1500 billables and we’re serious about it. Work is primarily ECVC, Outside GC, M&A. Pay is roughly 30% biglaw haircut, with incentive bonuses for hours and originations.

I’m a first year that’s inching toward second year. Partners in my group say “sometimes getting thrown into the deep end is the best way to learn.” However, I feel so lost. I feel like saying the above is just an excuse for not wanting to take the time to actually teach new associates.

1st yr at a nyc v50 firm doing general transactional work. I know the lateral market for transactional lawyers is hot but not as hot for juniors. I just want a change of scenery because my current firm is bleeding good associates / not giving great training imo / and just seems small. Would lateralling this early feasible? Would it look bad on my resume?

I’ve been at a job for a few months and hate it - partners set unrealistic deadlines, micromanage, and create work that truly is not necessary/push urgency when there is no real urgency. I had other offers prior to accepting this job that may still be options, and going back to my old job (for a pay cut) might also be an option. I can’t tell if this is just burnout, growing pains, or just an untenable work environment. Would you ride it out for a year at new job or pursue other options? HELP!

Random partner asked a litigation-related question to a partner I frequently work with (i’m a transactional associate). My partner cc’d me and said for me to briefly look. Asked the library. They got me a great case. Sent it back. Now the random partner is asking for more cases in another circuit.

I haven’t done caselaw research since 1L and this isn’t even my practice… wtf do I do (I am fully utilized in my normal work and have a few deals closing soon…)

Let’s talk speed reading. I’m a slow reader and listened to a podcast recently on speed reading. I’m intrigued. Who here speed reads? How did you learn those skills, and what types of documents do you speed read in practice? I do mostly litigation and am thinking that speed reading would help with research but maybe not things like doc review where you need to review for both responsiveness and privilege.
