Has anyone made the transition from insurance defense litigation to in-house work? If so, how did you go about doing it? Was there a pay cut or bump?

Yes. But multiple jobs in between. I truly just kept applying. First goal was to switch from litigation to corporate... found someone that would take a risk in training me but pay was sub six figures. But ultimately I make over 3 times in-house what I was making in insurance defense (though I was a new graduate and underpaid). I don’t work in house for an insurance company either.

Maybe in the next year or so if you live in my particular city in the Midwest. It’s 100% in office

I did, but it was indirect. Went from ID to commercial lit, then in-house for firm’s client.

I am concerned with fulfilling billable hours requirement. I’m required to hit 2100 hours yearly and I’m at ~1,500 hours and I think I’ll hit 150-180hours this month. What will happen if I don’t hit my targeted amount by the end of my year.

What do you do when you feel the goalpost has been/is being moved re: billable requirements? Like there's a spoken vs unspoken? I chose this job based on billables vs salary and what I'm being told I'm expected to do now is 20-30% (at least) > than what was initially agreed upon. Given my other life responsibilities, this is creating a huge strain & I feel like this is slowly getting harder & harder on my spouse & kids. I'm grateful to have lots of good work but not sure how to course correct.

CA courts are still closed, and I’m worried I won’t be able to exceed (or even meet) my May goal after April.
