Plenty of ex-consultants are working in the not-for-profit and charity sector - half of the Red Cross, Save the Children and lots of others are ex-MBB.
Of those I know, one was at BCG who had a partnership with the charity. They initially asked for a 1-year secondment, which led to them being offered a full time position at the charity. Somebody else I know went to CRUK, this was just a cold application though I think.
Thats how I got into consulting. Our university consulting club supports charities and small businesses and then uses them as consulting experience case studies.
The main issue is consulting requires a lot of resources and time. Something charities don't usually have.
That’s actually really impressive, given you were still in uni. Well done, and thanks for sharing.

What market do you work in?
If you are UK based I might be able to link you to a somewhat interesting opp.
The university society I did my pro bono consulting work with as a student are always looking for professional mentors. You get to support charities and you get to support people interested in the industry.
