I actually turned down a promotion last year. It sounded good in theory, but when it came down to it, it was way more work for not much more pay. It just didn’t seem worth it to give up my work-life balance for a title change.
I accepted a "promotion" and I think I shouldn't have, in the past! It was more of a lateral move, I ended up doing a lot more sales, it didn't go well.

Very normal. People decline promotions for reasons that rarely get talked about openly:
• Role changes they don’t actually want (less building, more managing)
• Lifestyle / stress tradeoffs
• Misaligned incentives (more scope, marginal comp change)
• Timing (wrong season of life)
A useful question: Do I want the work itself, or the validation attached to it?
if its not at least 15% its not a promotion, you dont want more work.and less pay.
