Why do so many people need sponsorship? Most people I speak to in tech (data) require some sort of sponsorship. Just curious why this is.

There is a lack of diversity in tech. As mentioned above, other countries place a huge focus on computer science and engineering degrees, the US, does not. There is lots of work to be done in the U.S.

Thank you!

Americans don't get the required advanced degrees / education needed at the volume which the market requires these types of individuals.

I blame poor math education and stripping edutainment from STEM field instruction.

The odd part is that some STEM degrees allow you to work with a Bachelor’s, but pay poorly.

I work for a staffing agency, and most engineering industry tech people are Asians(non US citizens) so that’s why.

B/c they aren’t US Citizens. Like TAM said above about Americans.

You mean America's best minds don't come from here???? What?! #shook

Started my new job today! I’m joining a late stage startup coming from a more mature company, and am noticing a lotttt of documentation debt. I’m coming in as Staff/Lead, and want to eventually move into management in 1-4 years. If I spend some of my first two week block updating and creating documentation for future devs, will that be seen as working hard or wasting time? It feels like a good use of my time to me….

Please help! I’m a CRC who manages Investigator- led clinical research projects and I want to transition to a PM role in industry (I would slightly prefer not a PM role in clinical trials since I don’t have clinical trial experience.) I have a friend who was let go a few months into his first job after college (reason: the manager felt like he wasn't grasping the training content to the level that was expected). He's worried about if he should put the experience on his resume anyway, if he does will recruiters ask why he had such a short time at this place, and what will recruiters think if he explains he was let go. What are some things recruiters expect from candidates in this situation to continue considering them?

When you recruiters say at the end of a 15 min call.
“I will get back to you by the end of this week” does that really mean “your not right for this position”? Because this whole thing is a waste of time. I’ve did these calls with 3 recruiters and is yet to hear back from someone. Today would be the 4th recruiter that I’ve spoken to. Does this practice annoy you guys just as much as it does us? My dream career is to be a technical recruiter but this whole thing is discouraging.
