They did research but all answers were generated by AI.
I mean it depends a lot on what you test - is it well formed AI ads with a human in the loop vs. human created low par ads? AI slop vs. a well produced, big budget ad created by humans? I expect testing is happening as we speak but you'd have to be much more specific than "AI vs human" to get to a reasonable apples to apples test with quantifiable results.
Most likely companies like Meta who want to prove/demonstrate that AI produced ads perform as well or better than human agency produced ads. Or even the big HoldCos for that matter - they would never outright publish it, but maybe do it in secret to demonstrate to clients and prospects that lower cost AI solutions perform as well or better? Or even clients themselves - I could see companies like P&G doing this sort of thing, pitting AI vs agency created. But I doubt any of them are going to "publish" and broadcast it to the world (except for the Meta example) because of the backlash and drama it would create in the industry. But don't doubt for a second it isn't already happening. Everyone wants to take cost out of everything, and for all of the touchy feely marketing of AI as a tool to boost human/worker productivity...it ain't that. It's a tool for corporations to employ fewer expensive humans, so even more "shareholder value" can be created.

Whoever does these tests will surely test the wrong thing. Like when they do A/B testing and conclude that the option with the red button performed.008% better than the option with the blue button, but they don’t take into account that the creative was totally different. So the conclusion is that we have to make the button red. But the elusive creative that performs better will remain a mystery.
