Don't take the counter offer. Never stick around for $. It'll wear off in 3 months and you'll be back to hating your job.
To be honest, I find this request suspect.
No you don't need to show the offer at all. They can ask you what you were offered but you have no obligation to show them the real figure. If you want to stay and you want them to match it though you could always show it. Counter offers aren't done really by MC except under extreme circumstances or if you're a big dog so if they even considering a counter offer you're doing well!
I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for proof, otherwise everybody would be claiming they have an offer in order to negotiate a counter
Can't speak to Group M policy but think the question is how enticing is the other offer. In my experience having been on both sides of the negotiation, current agencies rarely beat an offer. They will either match or come in just under banking on the fact that if you're considering staying at all, the comfort of the current role/org is worth something to you. So if you're more than happy to walk and take the new gig, I'd just do that. If you are just using the offer as leverage to get a salary bump then go ahead and share the letter.
Scan it and change the offer money.
You've already got one foot out the door so watch out if you keep the same job, they know you are unloyal now. Great question for this group though‼️
What if you like your current position and people you work with and just want a fair raise?
No they don't need to see it. Next time they tell you they can't afford a raise, you don't get to look in their books.
Why not provide the offer letter? Or a copy where you've retracted the company name
This is also a WPP policy... <shrug>
In order for LB to match an offer, they have to see the current offer. Make sure you're not lying about title/salary.
Definitely a GroupM process ! Has been for years.
There is no reason to show it. If there is that much employer/employee mistrust, it's not a great place to work anyway.
If you're on my team, please take the counter offer 😢
