Happens all the time. Don’t do it or they’ll expect that lower rate from you in the future - say you can’t go down on your rate and still devote the full time and effort this project deserves. but would love to work with the team again and knock it out of the park - if they liked you the money could magically appear.
Yes, Ogilvy does this. They say each client has a different budget. And if they want you for two days it’s more per day than if you’re on a weekly rate.
Yep, happened to me over the summer. Same situation. Couldn’t clearly identify if this was flattering (re-booking) or insulting (readjusting the rate).
The latter.
“Oh great, yes… I was here a month ago and had the ribeye. Phenomenal. I’d love that again but for less money?”
Lower rates are unfortunately becoming the norm. Try to hold onto your rate… until you absolutely can’t.
