My guess is that it's very close between you and another person and they want to get more insight from a senior manager. This happens quite a bit, actually.

What HR said… or it’s a new role and that senior person wants to feel like they have a say and pushed to be involved for the sake of it. Either way it’s not a bad thing on your end!
