Have you ever managed someone and not known what they did / didn’t understand their subject matter expertise? If so, 2 questions:
1) how did you handle it? In true honesty. 2) how did it impact your relationship with them?
I apparently have bad luck. 2 times I have gotten moved to a manager who didn’t hire me nor understand my expertise. So in this post I want to understand what would be the manager’s POV about this. Would you care to learn?

I personally love when new members of a team I lead let me know what they are great at and passionate about. As an independent contributor you will most likely be have to share/explain your role to your leader. I like to ask those who report to me “what’s your hidden talent?” Not all leaders are secure enough to ask you what your expertise is. So this is a good opportunity to set up a meeting and share your skills/experience.
If they are a secure leader it will only enhance your relationship. If they are not it could go either way, but that is their issue not yours.
Own your skills and share proudly.

I've been almost 3 years in my previous company and never have I ever tasted any raise from them. I got transferred to different accounts and LOB it was so exhausting and finally when I decided to leave and send my resignation my Supervisor be like "you know you should be thankful of your job" To be honest the job was very stressful and supervisor at some point is somehow toxic but thankful I get to take my leave.

I have been working in an interim role as a portfolio manager. I was promised that the role would be mine. However, after doing the job for 2 months, I have been advised that we might not get the funding for the role and I might not get the raise and the title but my responsibilities will be the same.

Its a political minefield.

Networking question here. A retired partner at the firm I used to work out reached out to me recently about attending an afternoon during the week (b4 4/30) with one of his long time clients.
