I dress pretty androgynous and don’t really get comments on my clothing. Some looks, but I think it has more to do with the fact I used to work in entertainment and still very much dress the part. People are more shocked on the odd day I decide to wear a dress for whatever reason and that’s when I feel like I get looks or the occasional weird, leering “you look great”.
Did you previously dress more femme? Maybe a perceived change in your personal style is the cause even if it’s anchoring to something which is more comfortable for you?
Either way, f the haters. Dress in whatever way brings you joy.
Do you homie. The weight I feel lifted when I see girls wearing heels and I roll up in my oxfords….🥳🥳
Suits yes but never ties unless something more creative/stylish. Tbh even men get strange looks these days if wearing a tie
I wear what makes me comfortable - for me as a female that means a men’s suit and tie (assuming that’s the appropriate attire). Sometimes a tie is a bit much, but I follow that lead from my partner. The first time I did it I was nervous but then I realized that the only person who cared was me. My partner and coworkers know me and how I typically dress so I don’t think they were surprised. And my clients didn’t seem to care and if they did, they didn’t show it or care enough to say something. For what it’s worth I’m a high performer and truly do believe that your work quality should be all that matters, not what you wear while you do that work.
At an enforcement agency, I had a colleague who dressed very male. Granted it was public sector in a deep blue state, but it was culturally very stuffy. She was a cybersecurity pro, everyone respected her and no one cared about her dress.
