This is awesome! Thank you for the encouragement. I was told the same thing about the federal sector. I am on there tonight looking as well. I have 6 years experience in the Government contractor business.
A couple of questions.
Do you have to be based in dc or are these remote roles?
Can you simply upload a resume or do you have to create one of those detailed laundry list of every single job and activity you’ve ever done?
How long was the actual process from applying to interviewing and then offer?
Were references needed and was there an extensive background check?
Thanks!!
USAJobs has jobs across the country. They can be jobs at the local IRS or Social Security office... a job on a military base... or they can be remote.
You can simply upload a resume.
They tell you when the deadline is for applying. Some are open for a year or more. However, most are only open for a few weeks or a month.
The hiring and offer process can be slow. You might even be told that you have been rejected for the role and then have them contact you for an interview.
It is not uncommon for there to be a 60-day period between tentative offer and the start of the role. During that time, there is a background check and reference check.
Depending on the role and where it is located, it can be a taxing experience.
I have been rejected from consideration because they did not like how my resume was formatted. Follow the applications EXACTLY (as the author clearly stated)
As be aware that all Zoom/Teams interviews will be with cameras off. So be prepared for a panel interview with voices only.
Many times, you may never hear back about a role unless you are offered an interview.
It all depends on whomever wins the White House, congress, and local governments. If people want their taxes low, they will cut government jobs & programs to maintain a budget. This I know personally from working in county government.
Many of these listings are cardboard. They are dog and pony to boost the illusion of jobs in a terrible economy. Regardless of November, many of them will be eliminated. It’s worth a shot but there’s more to it
