I was involved in several embarrassing and demoralising situations recently at work. A non-black colleague of mine had a little too much to drink and felt it was ok to use me as a racial pawn to his jokes. He used crude and racial terms to “relate” to me in front of other non-black colleagues. He went on to try to loop me in on James Brown’s “Say it Loud, I’m Black and I’m Proud”. Nothing was done about this. Should I be looking for another job?

Need advice; I’m starting a new job at a corporate WPP company. I’ve previously worked for small business. How is corporate culture/etiquette different?

How comfortable you guys feel wearing suits? I feel more comfortable and confident wearing jeans and button down than on suits. I understand I need to suit up for executive meetings.

Has anyone else had a mentor (assigned to them by the Company) who seemed to have it out for you? I mean downright sabotage to make you look bad left and right. I didn’t realize it at first. She was fake friendly, but she was discrete too. Some of the executives thought she was amazing, but I had to clean up her work all the time. She wasn’t above me either on the chain of command. Later I found out she had tried for the exec assistant role and they didn’t choose her, they wanted me instead.

If an employee mentions something disparaging or accusatory about their manager during an exit interview, how would you handle? What happens if what the employee said is slanderous and a “he said/she said” situation? I.e. employee claimed the manager made a disparaging remark about an item of clothing being worn by someone in accordance with their beliefs. If you opt to share the feedback with the manager, would the manager have a legal case against the company or former employee?

I’m a new analyst at a PE firm, and my associate keeps blaming me for things she does wrong. Like she will tell me I made the wrong change, even though she is the one who changed it. Or in calls with other people, she won’t take responsibility for things that she told me to do that the other person calls out as wrong.
