Some clients actually think you’re more creative with them. Keep ‘em out
Nah, I've got tattoos all over me, if they don't like it--that's a them problem. Tattoos have nothing to do with how much excellent work (I'm sure) you crank out for their campaigns.
I wouldn't cover anything, it's 2022. If you got them, why hide them? Unless they are about ki lling minorities or stuff like then. Then chop your arm.
@cw 1 omg. Shut. Up.
Think it depends on the client / situation. Pitch for a pretty conservative bank… I’d prob cover it up. Once you have the client, prob fine to let them shine ✨
All this cover-it-up talk ain’t feeling so inclusive
Depends on the client and the meeting. Generally no, though.
By now, aren’t tattoos mainstream enough to not rile anyone up?
id like to think so!
I would err on the side of no. Assess your audience and relationship to decide. Also I’d see if any client partners expose any tattoos or if they are more business even if business casual.
I thought client meetings were why people got tattoos.
I think you can charge more if you have tattoos. It means you're a cool hotshot hipster.
That’s very true
Question for the cover it up crew. Without invoking the content of the work itself, what negative thing *exactly* are you thinking tattoos could communicate to a client?
Because I can think of a few things being offended by them could communicate.
im not sure as it’s the first time i have to asked myself the question. I’m okay showing them with colleagues and existing clients, i had a pitch this morning so thought id ask and see how it could be perceived
I would cover them up on a pitch just incase and because it’s easy to wear a long sleeve shirt but then once the relationship is established they can see them
But just in case, what *exactly*?
If someone is worried about how I look above the work I’m producing? Bummer for them. You’re not hiring a model — you’re hiring a designer
“Ugly but good” just became my new motto
I work on a conservative client (not politically, just very formal about a lot of things), so yes.
The global health CD at an agency I worked at was covered neck to ankle in tattoos and pharma clients loved him. Unless it’s a detailed tattoo of an orgy I think you’re good.
It also depends what region you’re working in/for
Nope, never. They’re on my hands and neck so I couldn’t really if I wanted to.
Tattoos stopped being rebellious about 20 years ago. Your client probably has a butterfly or dolphin somewhere on her ankle.
carpe diem on their wrist?
Never had any issue with showing tattoos in this career regardless of client. Unless there’s some kind of profanity, it would never cross my mind to have anyone on my team cover it up. Maybe if you had the clients logo with the word sucks underneath it, I’d grab a company sweatshirt for you. Show ‘em.
It’s 2022 so everything is acceptable. That said, while they won’t say anything, people will judge you. But that’s the way you chose to present yourself so it’s likely how you want to be viewed. Just like if someone judged someone by their big hair or super short hair.
I wouldn’t sweat it. Everyone’s busy thinking about themselves.
I knew a producer who promised to get a production company's name tattooed on his arm if they did a job did a bid for a certain amount. They did the bid and he got the tattoo. A year or two later he got laid off and the production company went out of business. Now he has to walk around for the rest of his life with a defunct production company branded on him.
