From Design Lead to Design Ops?

Has anyone moved from being a design lead to design ops? I have always loved helping steward a team and mentoring individuals, but I’m burnt out on day to day design. I don’t want to be limited to design and want to move to a new kind of challenge.

I am aware that this comes with some learning and personal and professional investment, so I’m not afraid to pivot in that sense.

Advice for leaving an emotionally/mentally abusive job before you find a new job? No luck on the job search, but I'm at the end of my rope. I need out. Am I crazy to quit before I find something else?
