It’s hard to say unless we know what OP actually asked … is it more like how’s this person interviewing style or what type of behavior they usually ask … or what case are they going to give. There are diff level of issues
BCG2: No, we don’t warn but rather we must report the unethical behavior.
Not sure how that would have helped, our interview process is pretty standardized. Its strange personally dont see the big issue with this.
OP, I can see why asking for a case prompt will be a problem. Why would you ever ask that of someone you don’t personally know when’s there are online resources to help you prepare? Just so you know, these big firms fire employees for asking or getting questions to courses and exams so considering it’s an ethical issues that the big 4s where fined millions of dollar for not too long ago, it’s more likely than not that you are on the no hire list but you won’t know for sure so try again after a while and the worst they can say is no.
Well the fact you did that and based on your responses here show you probably wouldn’t have made it through anyway
50 year ban. Sorry buddy.
hope it was a humbeling experience
Violating a code of conduct?? For asking tips about an interview? Weird
I’m sure you can apply in a year or two but damn you fumbled that
i know man i know, stupid mistake
Yes agree. I am not sure which is more worse - OP doing something unethical or people here think the contacted person in the firm shouldn’t have reported is. Either way, OP doesn’t deserve a place violating the code of conduct.
I would have reported it too, if anyone tried to take unfair advantage.
It’s okay to ask for referral from someone you know and beyond that, need to play it fair with interviews. This is how everyone else is competing for the same role, and anyone tried to unfair advantage of process should be rightfully disqualified.
I hope this could be a reportable offense, with other consulting firms allowed to share a database of such offenders :)
Don’t compare audit failures with unethical practices.

Wtf is this? Every McK partner always tries to backchannel with the client on every competitive pitch. Just like all of us are. They should’ve given you bonus points for displaying partner behaviour…

If McK invested in client relationships like their internal risk function, perhaps Parter bonus would be paid over two years instead of several.
Imagine: being too unethical for McKinsey.
Plenty of other fish in the sea, my friend. And in fact, this may be a blessing in disguise.
So hunt for other firms and move on. Don’t worry about this small misstep.
Good luck. 👍
Realistically, you probably have a ‘do not hire’ flag on your name now. Just move on with your life and notch it up to one of life’s experiences to learn from.
wow that's sad, thanks for the honest answer
If you are marked for values issue (looks like you are) then likely banned forever. Just move on OP
Did you contact a random person and they snitched on u?
Yea man and you know that McKinsey is the most ethical of them all, how silly of you!
Were you looking to use ChatGPT in the interview? is that why you got reported?
Mck has a code of conduct 😂
Can you share exactly what you wrote? Hard to interpret whether it was inappropriate otherwise.
Can you share the full sentence? Or are you saying that you actually asked for the case prompt?
Try back in a year.
