Would be about average for my sector but would very much depend on where in the EU you are working, what sector you are in and how relevant your PhD is to that sector.
6k is what should be the norm for a PhD. However, since yours is in plant/animal breeding, the salaries depend on the penetration of the work in the market. If the penetration is mild or slow, it reflects in the profitability of that particular company and so the salaries. Think of salaries are a direct impact it creates for the company rather than “I need to be paid x euros because I have a degree/slogged my life for earning it” this alone shifts whether you want to be in the field at all, if you want to, what companies you need to target to earn higher and get ROI that you’d be satisfied with. Also eliminates bad companies underpaying you. Hope this gives you a better perspective.
