That’s a heavy season and I'm really sorry you’re dealing with all that at once. Job markets can be brutal, especially mid-transition. I’d suggest tweaking your resume for every role. It's annoying but effective! Try tapping into alumni networks, and even reaching out directly to hiring managers on social platforms with a short, personal note. Your next opportunity is there. Keep going.
I really appreciate the kind words and the encouragement! I've been doing my best to tweak my resume and cover letter as best I can, while also making personal connections with the hiring manager. I know that it has to eventually work, but with our lease coming up and my wife's payments about to stop, it's hard not to be discouraged.
I found it energizing to go to face-to-face networking events - even if not entirely relevant to my field. I got inspired talking to other people in a similar position. I researched creative communities meet-ups. I also built relationships with lots of recruiters as it is so much easier to be put forward by a recruiter rather than applying cold. I also made myself available for contract work. Good luck - it is a tough climate!
Ugh I'm so sorry that's so much to navigate at once. I don't have any specific leads for you, but just wanted to send a couple of ideas that have seemed to give me a bit more traction (though I'm still job hunting myself). I've been really leaning on my network heavily, always checking for connections on LinkedIn at the different companies I'm applying to. Then I'm also recently working with a career coach. Not someone random I found online but someone that came recommended. So far theyve helped a lot with my resume. Just a couple ideas for you - good luck out there!
Thank you so much, I greatly appreciate that! I've hitting LinkedIn hard for current and new connections, but I never thought about a career coach. I will definitely keep that in mind as I continue to look for employment. Thank you so much, and I appreciate the encouragement! Same to you!
Join Facebook PR and Marketing Groups, post frequently and make connections. Meet people in person, go to PR Marketing and Business events and organizations like the Chamber of Commerce. People hire people they know, join the organization, volunteer, get involved. Reach out directly to executives at companies you’re interested in, send your resume even if they don’t have jobs posted. Look to see what companies have new clients or PR/Marketing executives, they may be looking for new teams. Look for freelance and contract work, there might be opportunities for vacation season.
