Hello, I'm looking to make a big change in my life and I'm wanting to move to either Vancouver or Toronto. Which city would be better for a woman in her 30s looking for new experiences?

Lots of answers, let me bring a different perspective.

When I came to Canada, my firm gave me the option of settling wherever I wanted.

Toronto is where the action is. People are straightforward and transactional. Largest companies, biggest clients, greatest nightlife. However, politics abound, you're living in New York lite, and there's a sense of distance in the people.

Vancouver is full of standoffish people, but once you get to know them, you have deeper relationships. The Vancouver Flake(look it up) is a real thing, in life and in business. Lifestyle here is different - you may not get a chance to see the latest and greatest artists, but you'll hike and climb and ski far more. You'll have to learn to embrace the easygoing (perhaps too relaxed) west coast lifestyle, or find it abhorrent and move on.

I will not pretend to know what you're looking for, but I chose Vancouver. I regret it sometimes from a work perspective, but not enough to leave the lifestyle.

It depends on what you're looking for. Vancouver is close to the mountains and the ocean with tons of hiking and skiing options. Toronto is a bigger city with great culture and food, plus it's a quick flight to tons of cities on the east coast of the US. Vancouver is much more my pace. Best of luck with your move!

Vancouver is only a good option if you are very active and into outdoor activities. Outside of that, the city is quite slow and the people reserved. It well known that transplants have a very difficult time making new friends and forming friend groups. Also, the nightlife here is more geared to people in their 20s. Once you hit your thirties, there’s a lot less to do. It’s a great place for raising a family, but can be quite lonely if not.

If you’re single and looking to meet someone, not Vancouver!

It really depends on what are your interests. Vancouver is more outdoorsy vibes and Toronto is more city vibes. Also, personally I think Toronto has more job opportunities but I like living in a Vancouver better because of the outdoors

It depends on what you're interested in. If you're looking for a more social vibe then Toronto

What sort of new experiences are you looking for

Vancouver is more scenic and less fast -paced than Toronto

Both cities are incredibly expensive, that's all I know for sure. Toronto has been compared to Chicago a lot, and if you like it in Chicago, I'd bet a big city energy still rings vibrant in Toronto.

Toronto would be better for new experiences. Vancouver is good, but it can be expensive and difficult to find opportunities. I know Toronto suffers from the same problems, though career wise Toronto would be a safe bet.

Vancouver is a tourist town and a bunch of communities each sticking to their pre-migration identity. If you have a lot of money, and can afford a west vancouver home, come on in. Otherwise toronto.

If you like nature, enjoy quiet and peace - Vancouver.
Socialize scene - definitely Toronto. You meet more cool people in Toronto, people are more socially open minded of forming new groups. There are way more places you can go in Toronto. Fast paced city. Socialize after work is a thing there. A lot more culture diverse. You never really get bored. The only downside is less nature but there are parks there and here.

I live in Vancouver (born and raised) but do business in both Vancouver and Toronto, so am back and forth. The cultures are quite different as people have said but it really depends on what you’re looking for.

Are you single, married, have kids, like the outdoors? Are you coming from a big city or small town? Would you be looking for employment or do you have a job that allows you to work from either city?

Lots of positives/negatives about both. I’ve lived in both cities and these are my thoughts

Vancouver:
Pros
- great outdoors, you’re 20 minutes from the ski hills. Tons of parks and greenery
- super laid back culture and lots of fitness-oriented people
- Very good food at reasonable prices
Cons
- expensive (real estate is about the same as Toronto) but even gas, food, car insurance, etc. costs way more
- super cliquey social setting and very sleepy if you want to go out late.
- drivers here are awful. Look at our past winter, it’s a joke. CoV is also just as bad.
- given the high cultural diversity, it’s still a very racist city.
- people complain way too much about rent and affordability
- if you live in the burbs getting to the city can be crap

Toronto
- big city feel
- more spread out so even if you’re not in Toronto proper, you can still enjoy nightlife
- more job opportunities
- for more professional jobs, wages are much higher, even for jobs within the same company but just Toronto vs Vancouver
Cons
- dirtier than Vancouver
- way less outdoorsy feel to it
- bit more corporate feel (personally I consider this a pro but that’s me)

Both cities have their pros! Obviously Toronto is going to have that bigger city feel if you're more into that.

Toronto, no question

Living in Van. Previously lived in Toronto. Obviously rent prices are high as is cost of living. Generally go out and spend more often living in a city. Boyfriend and I on good salary but not saving much due to the above. Before we move home to our own country, we’d love to spend a year close to Vancouver where rent is cheaper, temptation is less, to save. A commute to Vancouver 1-2 times a month needs to be possible (his job). That can be a flight if it’s not crazy. Thoughts? Recommendations?
