Hey all, I’m a PM at a fintech. Our product team is spread across three countries. Today I found out that the product roles where we are HQ’d were made redundant, with plans to offshore them to our India location. It looks like cost was a big driver.

I haven’t been affected (yet), but it’s a little worrying. It also means that where we mainly operate, we’ll have no local product presence.

Is this a potential red flag. Anyone have any thoughts?

Pretty much a big red flag. Only the most senior rôles will remain

Start looking for a new role. It’s just a matter of time before your group is affected. It’s possible that the budget for your role was already allocated and secured through the FY, so you are unaffected today but it will suck a lot if/when you are let go in the middle of the holiday season , so use this time wisely to scout for your next opportunity or network internally if you want to stay on in your current company and pivot to a different role.

Impact or layoffs are usually in layers. If it didn't impact you yet. You will surely be the next in line. So start looking for a job elsewhere.

Does really Collaboration work or it's just a myth. Always hearing from Offshore manager is that take more ownership like from offshore we should be working 80% and only 20% will leave for onshore because of time difference..

Is it really a collaboration or simply a cold War between offshore and onshore ownership..

Anyone got surprise hike this month??
I got around 10-15 percent hike apart for Yearly Hike.

Anyone a manager? I’m recently diagnosed (26F) and I can’t help but beat myself up everytime I fall short of my to do list. Makes me feel like a huge disservice to my team. I’ve been trying vitamin D and working out, but it makes my “highs” and “low” SO extreme. The simplest things are so complex in my mind.

If anyone feels similar, how do you manage these feelings? I’m personally considering switching to an individual contributor role, but can’t help but feel like a disappointment if I do.

With product design questions, I struggle to identify user groups. Once I do everything starts flowing and I’m confident. But the initial identification of user groups is something I find challenging. What’s your go-to way of doing this? For example, the question “design a podcasting app for truck drivers.” What types of truck drivers can I select so that I can prioritize a user group to focus on and begin identification of pain points and solutions?

Would folks be open to participating in a “PM Office Hours” style discussion?

Flexible on format etc; here’s what I’m thinking:
- We choose a particular problem for a week (/month?) which a lot (all?) PMs face regularly. E.g. “stakeholder mapping”
- we have a “Fishbowl Live event” where we (practicing PMs) can discuss what we have seen work / not work/ brainstorm solutions for someone with a specific problem.

The idea is to provide multiple peer perspectives, and hopefully something useful

I’m trying to pivot to PM after >3 years in finance and I have a 2nd round interview with CPO this week. Company has 3.7 on Glassdoor with complaints about CEO, “bro-y” culture, and hard to wfh. It’s a data analytics company with 5 PMs, was bought by a PE firm this year, and has a new (female) CEO as of Oct. Role is 50/50 hybrid, pays well vs what I make, and most importantly would be a foot in the door to PM. Is this a good place to be for PM? What else do I need to find out to know for sure?
