Currently 32 and half way through my tests. If you use Becker it has changed significantly to where you can break it down into smaller chunks. The exam content has moved around a bit too with BEC now being three different discipline sections where you only have to take 1. It's definitely harder having more responsibilities given job experience/# of years in role and I have kiddos at home too. But if you are determined to get it, I'd start with a section you are interested in, have previously passed or do daily. A passing score will motivate you that it is possible. I've found that if you study 2 hours in the morning, can use your lunch break then the hours you need in the evening can be reduced, versus trying to do it all after the workday. This way your brain is also fresh to absorb info at the beginning of the day versus trying to do it after you have already worked a full day. Make sure as you start new topics that you continue multiple choice questions on the old topics as well so you don't forget what you've already covered. It's more just balance, finding a rhythm that works and you can stick to, then just be disciplined.
Audit I studied for in 2 weeks but granted I do that everyday. Good luck and it is possible!
Thank you! These are very helpful tips! I did notice they changed the exam since I took it last.
Yes there are some of us doing this. I'm in my early 40s and know someone else in their mid 30s in the same boat. Yes most people finish it in their 20s but everyone's journey is different. Studying while working sucks, it's difficult, you have to be very strict with your time and schedule and I have had to make sure I stop work at a certain hour every day (making sure to not work late unless it's extremely urgent) in order to stick to studying. I also wake up earlier to study at least an hour so in case life wants to life later in the day and I can't get in 2-3 hours after work I at least did something that day. Block the time like it's a meeting so you actually stick to it. If you are able to find time during the day like 30 minutes here and there for flashcards or practice questions, that will help too. Inform your family and friends that when u are studying you should not be bothered unless its an emergency. This will help with people not interrupting you with calls or walking in the room during specific hours if you are studying at home.
The CPA hasn't gotten any better (take it from someone who started this back in 2014 and seen all the changes that have happened). That being said, it is doable and as long this is something you want to complete, you will complete it. put your mind to it, don't let the hard days of studying bring you down, focus on the end outcome and believe in yourself. If you fail any sections, don't beat yourself up, keep focused and see which areas you need additional work in. I've taken these sections wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too many times to count but I'm on my last one almost to the finish line. Your journey is your journey. Wishing you the best of luck in your studies and passing the CPA!
Good luck to you too!!
I am in my 40s working on this.. . You are not alone!
F
32 and currently on my last. I used “super fast CPA” and it’s been working well for me.
Just got mine at 37! You can do it.
Oh and took weekends off to clear my mind. Maybe the weekend or two leading up until the exam I would study. But for the most part, I gave myself breaks on the weekend. That was so important.
