Hey everyone! New Data analyst here,
What are your favorite tricks for explaining complicated data stuff to stakeholders who aren't data nerds. Also, I enjoy making dashboards and charts easy to understand. Sometimes folks have specific tools they like. How do you keep dashboards simple and impactful when using visualization tool?

Just keep it high level and doing get into the technical stuff but do point out why you took that approach and how it’s beneficial -for any analytics you do (assumptions you took, edge cases you considered, etc).

For dashboards - depends on your audience. For executives or senior leadership - you’d want to showcase metrics/KPIs and the landing view snapshot should tell a story without having to dig into the data/charts. Keep it high level and only the most important/impactful stuff. Don’t have to be overly complicated -make it stupidly easy and interactive and you’ll see a much wider adoption rate. You could also build your own metric and in that case it’s best to have a hover over definition so your audience knows what to expect.

Thank you so much for this insight

Storytelling is the key element of any dashboard. If you convey your story to your stakeholders through the dashboard, they will be hooked!

For me, gathering data requirements also is a crucial step before you dive onto the project and start building.
First, you need to understand what this dashboard needs to answer for your audience, what metrics do they like to see.
Keep the discussion within the key stakeholders or better yet SMEs who have been using the data and most familiar with it.
Having a clear direction on what the dashboard is for would help a lot in producing one that solves the problem and saves time for everyone.
Keep only relevant charts and metrics, lessen the clutter/ noise. Most of the time making it simple and less complicated is the way to go.

Anyone have any leads on Sr Resource Manager roles opening?

H1-B transfer question

I recently accepted an offer to join a company (A) . They started my H1-B transfer and I received today the approval notice for the transfer.

However, I accepted last week a (better) offer at another company (B) and they will start soon my H1-B transfer.

I attend to tell company (A) on Monday that I will not be joining them. Will there be any issue with company B filing for a H1-B transfer soon?

Tomorrow, I know I will be asked to continue pushing forward with pre planned campaigns that upsell products and services that to groups already in dire straits. After the events of this weekend, I ethically disagree with acting “business as usual”. I’ll raise this with my team, but I anticipate a crossroads with leadership (I am fairly new, younger, junior, woman POC to the org.) If this results and BAU does not change, is it more right to leave my job? Or stay where change is needed?

I’ve got about 20 years cross channel experience in marketing, split between big brands and startups, and I’m considering pivoting into a data science/data analyst role. I know it will initially be a step back in comp but is it at all realistic for a person with certificate level experience in data analysis but a decent marketing management background to expect $150-200k comp or is that mostly for degreed candidates (or not realistic at all)? Any guidance here is greatly appreciated.

Senior to Manager-level Data Scientists, what is the minimum set of skills and experience you require someone to have in order to train them to be a Data Scientist?

I have a handful of people from BI and Marketing who want to learn how to be a "Data Scientist" where some of them have stronger SQL knowledge and ability than others, but some of them have more exposure to languages like Python and R, and a little bit of machine learning exposure.
