Hi everyone! having tackled virtual onboarding personally I wanted to write about my experience to help new starters and managers go through the process. I also spoke to two friends (one starting at Deloitte and the other at an early stage startup). Hope it helps you all! hipr.pl/37DgkAm

Blended learning is the key here, I think. 8hrs/day on zoom is just too much. Assign reading and elearnings in your LMS. Give off-screen assignments that involve introspection or writing on paper. Hold discussion sessions as walking meetings where everyone joins the meeting on their phones (this is also fun for a social break—you get to see where people live, their dogs/kids, etc).
For testing, create a variety of knowledge checks that could include tests in your LMS (or even Google forms if you don’t have an LMS), Kahoot! games, online bingo (there are free sites where you can create your own answer cards and everyone plays online) and etc.
Variety in activity and medium are key.
I second Thumbtack ⬆️ ⬆️ Blended doesn’t have to mean in person vs remote but you can’t expect people to sit through a 5hr webinar and be able to recall what they learned. We built our onboarding program on Nomadic Learning and it’s been a game changer. We have some webinars but they’re spaced out and mixed into social/cohort-based e-learning. It’s gotten great reviews from new hires so far, we ran it for 4k new hires last year and just renewed again for this year
