If your current experience does not fit into requirements for the roles you are looking for then try to find ways to get that experience first.
Or try to see where your current experience can be leveraged in the industry.
This is general advice for any industry. Not just lifesciences.
If you don’t know what you are looking for, then network with people to learn about what they do. Then see where you have some transferable skills and how you can address the gaps. For any new role most of the time you need to have atleast 60% to 70% of the experience needed for the job to have a chance of landing.
I agree with what you have said and I think for me pursuing entry-level roles and contract jobs have been more promising than going into a role with a bit more experience. One thing I have found difficult is not getting feedback from applications after not being moved forward. I believe getting such feedback would be more helpful for applicants in really understanding whether or not their qualifications or personality affected their chances of landing the role.
Based on your experience, what kind of successful candidates look like for you whenever being interviewed?
